Hunting in Park & Summit County offers rewarding high-country experiences with abundant elk, deer, and small game. Explore diverse habitats, public lands, and scenic wilderness for unforgettable Colorado hunting adventures.

    MIGRATORY BIRDS & SMALL GAME

    Waterfowl (ducks/geese): Requires federal Duck Stamp and Colorado stamp; limited or prohibited in specific high-altitude reservoirs—check CPW regulations and specific water bodies.

    Dove & Pigeon – enjoy seasonal dove and band-tailed pigeon hunts on public landUpland birds – hunt dusky grouse, blue grouse, ptarmigan, and chukar in high-elevation forests and alpine slopes.

    Rabbits & Hares – pursue snowshoe hares and jackrabbits in mountain meadows and riparian zones.

    Squirrels – target tree squirrels in forested areas, though populations are sparser than plains species.

    State Wildlife Areas & WIA access – participate on public state lands under CPW Walk-In Access program.

    CPW HUNTING ATLAS

    The Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CPW) Hunting Atlas is an interactive, web-based mapping tool designed for hunters. It helps with virtual scouting by displaying game management units, big-game concentration zones, public land boundaries, state wildlife areas, and access points—all layered over topographic or satellite maps. Hunters can search by GMU, place name, or coordinates, generate printable maps, and customize routes and waypoints for optimal planning.
